The much-awaited sequel to 2018’s God of War, God of War Ragnarok is set to launch in a few weeks. Experience everything you know and love about God of War at a whole new scale – with more enemies than ever before and some truly massive bosses.

God of War Ragnarok is scheduled to release for PS5 and PS4 on November 9th, 2022. The game was initially supposed to launch in 2021, but it got delayed. Developer Santa Monica Studio shared the release date with a new cinematic trailer alongside pre-order details and editions.

The story centers around Kratos and Atreus as they take on an army of Cyclopes in order to save their daughter from the clutches of Hela, who has come back from beyond the grave with an army of undead warriors at her command. She has also brought back some familiar faces including the three Fates: Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos.

The game will come packed with all-new content including new weapons, armor sets, enemies and more. The PS5 version of God of War will also support HDR technology so players can enjoy clearer visuals on their TVs.

God of War is one of Sony’s biggest franchises and has been a mainstay in gaming culture since its debut in 2005 on PlayStation 2 (PS2). The third installment in the series was released five years after its predecessor God Of War II arrived on PS2 back in 2007.

God of War Ragnarok story

When the God of War franchise was first announced, it was met with mixed reactions from gamers and critics alike. The story of Kratos and Atreus had been told before, but many wondered how the series would continue to evolve. Many gamers were concerned about the lack of innovation in the gameplay, and for some, this was enough to send them away. However, Santa Monica Studio has proven time again that they are able to deliver on their promises.

In PlayStation’s official blog post, they shared some details about the story of God of War Ragnarok. The game will pick up a few years after the events of God of War and will test the survival skills of Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir. The developer says: “While the last game built an enormous amount of trust and understanding between father and son… there is still a great deal of complexity in their interactions – especially after the revelation of Atreus’ Giant heritage and the hidden prophecy only Kratos saw…”

The sequel will explore the relationship between Kratos and Atreus with higher stakes

The official story synopsis for God of War is out, and it’s not particularly spoiler-y.

“Fimbulwinter is well underway. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world. Along the way they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters.”

It sounds like Kratos and Atreus’ quest is going to take them all over Norse mythology, from icy realms to fiery ones. The threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer in this game, which is likely what prompts Kratos to decide whether or not he should stay alive or die with the rest of humanity.

The official listing for PlayStation’s God of War game, which is due out in 2020, has revealed the story synopsis. The synopsis reads: “Fimbulwinter is well underway. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world. Along the way they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters.”

The threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer. Kratos and Atreus must choose between their own safety and the safety of the realms.
